You will need
- 500 grams ground beef
- 30 small hamburger buns
- 1 large onion, grated
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 30 cheese slices
- 3 tomatoes, sliced
- Lettuce, to serve
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- Optional: sliced pickles
To make
In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, grated onion, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup and egg yolk. Use your hands to form 30 small burger patties. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet and fry the burger patties in batches for 2 minutes each side. They should still be rare in the middle – they will finish cooking in the oven later. Place patties on an oven tray and refrigerate until ready to serve.
When ready to serve, cover an oven tray with aluminium foil. Place the hamburger buns on the tray and heat for 5 minutes in an oven heated to 340 degrees Fahrenheit. Top the beef patties with cheese slices and place in the oven for 5 minutes.
Top each bun with a beef patty. Top with lettuce, sliced tomato, and ketchup or BBQ sauce. If you like, add sliced pickles to each bun.
