The start of Subway sandwiches
In 1965, Fred DeLuca a 17-year-old, high school grad and family friend Dr. Peter Buck team up to open their first submarine sandwich shop in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Originally called “Pete’s Super Submarines,” they sell 312 sandwiches the first day. In 1968, the sandwich shop is renamed “Subway”.

Since 2007, Subway has consistently ranked in Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top 500 Franchises list. In 2015, it ranked #3 on the “Top Global Franchises” list and #1 as the “Fastest Growing Franchise. Today, the Subway brand is the world’s largest submarine sandwich chain with more than 40,000 locations around the world.
