It’s a common misconception that frugal fashion is hard. Sure, sometimes you have to sift through racks of thrift store clothes to find something you’ll like – but in doing so you can find clothing gems at a fraction of the price of new stuff, which might not be as good anyway. Here are our best frugal fashion tips for fashionistas on a budget.
Sew your own clothes
This is seriously one of the best things you can do for your wallet and your wardrobe. Maybe you were an avid sewer in textiles class in high school, and your old machine is out in the garage. Time to dust it off and get cracking! If you weren’t so lucky, ask your relatives or friends for any sewing tips. Or there’s always the Internet! YouTube has a huge array of sewing tutorials for first-timers. The only extra thing you’ll need is a sewing machine – scour yard sales or eBay for a bargain.
Shop clearance racks
If you head to clothing stores during the off-season times, you’ll slowly be able to build up a nice wardrobe by the time that season rolls around. At the end of winter, purchase the heavily discounted winter items at clothing stores and wait to wear them the following year. Same goes for summer. Have a minimalist wardrobe
If you have less hanging in your wardrobe, there’s always room for more good quality items. Clean out your closet and sell or donate old clothes that you no longer wear. When buying clothing, make sure it’s a classic piece of clothing that will last for a long time. Pick block color items that will go with the other items you have. If you only purchase 3 new items a year, in reality you’ll still be able to rock a minimalist wardrobe provided you wear classic pieces.
